My One KPI for Success: Joy

Most companies track performance with long lists of KPIs: revenue, growth, conversion rates, retention, and so on. I keep it simple.

My one KPI is this:
Am I enjoying what I’m doing while I’m doing it?

This wasn’t always the case. Earlier in my career, I chased the “traditional” KPIs because I thought that’s what success looked like. But I noticed something: even when I hit the numbers, if I wasn’t enjoying myself, it never felt like real growth.

Now, I measure differently. I’ve learned that when you genuinely love what you’re doing:

  •  You naturally put in the effort
  • You get better at it faster
  • Others feel that energy and want to work with you
In other words, joy creates competence.

Of course, numbers and targets still matter. But for me, enjoyment is the clearest sign that I’m on the right path. When you do what you love, thriving isn’t forced, it becomes inevitable.
